Laval is the seat of the prefecture of the department Mayenne in the region Pays de la Loire in France. The city lies on the banks of the Mayenne River.

The TGV on the Paris – Rennes line stop in Laval eight times a day; the travel time from Paris-Montparnasse is just over 1½ hours.
In the street
From Paris on the motorway Autoroute A11 to Le Mans and further on Autoroute A81. Driving time from Paris around 2:50 hours, from Le Mans and Rennes 1 hour.

The Mayenne is canalised (small lock in Laval) and is navigable for pleasure craft, but rarely used.
