trips

Sledging on the Gemmi

On the high plateau at 2350 meters above sea level, you can expect more than just an incredible panoramic view of the Valais Alps. For those who find it too difficult to drag the sledge, there is the possibility of renting a sledge directly at the mountain station. On the track specially designed for tobogganers, you drive down towards Daubensee. There are two toboggan runs, 1.2 and 1.5 km long. The aerial tramway at the Daubensee will bring you back up to the mountain station and continue with the next descent!

hike

Leukerbad is an ideal starting point for hikes. The possibilities are numerous. The Gemmi and Torrent mountain regions in particular can be reached quickly and easily. The hikes vary in duration and level of difficulty. For inexperienced hikers, guided hikes are also offered all year round. The classic pass hikes are also spectacular in Leukerbad. From Torrent the route leads over the Restipass into Lötschental. On the Restialp there is a direct connection to the Lötschentaler Höhenweg. The second, often used pass route leads over the Gemmi, Daubensee, Schwarenbach and Sunnbühl Kandersteg.

Gemmi

The path winds up from Leukerbad to the Gemmi at around 2350 meters above sea level. During the hike you can marvel at the impressive rock walls. Whether small, easy hikes or mountain tours lasting several hours, there is a suitable route for everyone on the Gemmi.

Torrent

On Torrent A huge network of hiking trails awaits you with good signage. Let your gaze wander over the expanses of the Rhone Valley and enjoy the wonderful panorama of the four-thousand-meter peaks of the Valais Alps.

Dala Gorge

Also the Dala Gorge is easily accessible from Leukerbad and definitely worth a trip. The footbridge in the gorge is almost 600 meters long and built at least four meters above the river bed everywhere. While you are on the jetty, the water flows under you. Brown rust strips on the rock walls indicate the iron content of the thermal water, which runs from cracks in the middle of the rock walls of the Dala Gorge. This is where the layers of rock carrying thermal water begin, with many small thermal springs. Along the rock faces, a 21-meter-long suspension bridge leads to a 35-meter-high waterfall, which you exit via stairs to Chastlaweid. On the way back, you bypass the gorge on the northern or southern slope to get back to the Heilbadbrücke. Definitely an impressive experience.

Lac basement de St-Léonard

For nature lovers, St-Léonard, about 50 minutes away, offers a special kind of attraction. An underground lake extends over 6000m2 near the village. This makes the Lac Souterrain de St-Léonard the largest underground lake in Europe. The lake can be explored by boat accompanied by a guide. The excursion can be ideally combined with a visit to the nearby canton capital Sion.

Rockclimbing

Leukerbad is the starting point for some of the classic mountain peaks in the Bernese Alps. Peaks such as Wildstrubel, Daubenhorn, Rinderhorn, Balmhorn and Altels can be climbed from Leukerbad. There are also several SAC huts available as base camps: Lötschenpasshütte, Lämmernhütte and Berghaus Schwarenbach. The impressive scenery of Leukerbad includes the high rock faces of the Daubenhorn. Several via ferratas have been created here. The classic via ferrata with exit east of the Daubenhorn summit is considered the most difficult via ferrata in the Swiss Alps: It is long, overcomes a large difference in altitude and is extremely exposed.

Grande Dixence - the highest gravity dam in the world

A reservoir that collects the water from 35 Valais glaciers. You can see this in just 90 minutes by car in the beautiful Val d'Hérens. Enjoy the enchanting panoramic view of the highest gravity dam (285 meters) in the world. It is possible to take part in a one-hour tour. As soon as you have seen enough of this breathtaking wall, a short detour to the pyramids of Euseigne is also worthwhile in this region. A natural phenomenon that can be marveled at in a road tunnel.
