Understand

Climate

The Lofoten are located completely north of the Arctic Circle, but the climate is still mild thanks to the Gulf Stream. The temperature is not much on the frost side in winter, but no mercury rises above 15 degrees even in summer. Because the Lofoten are an archipelago, there is a lot of wind there. Appropriate clothing should be included.

Come

By plane

From Oslo Bodø Airport, from where you can reach Leknes and Svolvær on the Widerøe.

By train

From the Swedish side to Narvik by train, from where by bus to your destination. Trains leave e.g. From Malmö, Stockholm and Luleå. The train from Boden Central Station to Narvik costs 38-45 euros per adult one way and the journey lasts 6 hours, plus the additional hours spent on the bus. So you can set aside time for the trip.

There is also a train from Norway in the direction of the Lofoten: from Trondheim to Bodö Central Station, from where the journey continues by ferry to Moskenes.

By road

From Sweden road E10, there are no toll ferry connections on this route.

By bus

Lofotexpress buses run from Narvik to Svolvaer several times a day.

By boat

Hurtigruten passes through the Lofoten. There are car ferries from Bodø to the Lofoten Islands.

Move

If you are traveling by car, then there should be no problems. The distance from Svolvaer to Leknes is about 70 km, from Leknes to Å the same amount. Buses also run through the Lofoten. Hitchhiking is popular.

Talk

Norwegian, but practically always English.

Eat

The price level in restaurants is expensive in Norwegian: a restaurant portion costs at least NOK 120 (EUR 20). Even a normal-sized tomato pizza costs 11 euros in a Svolvaer pizzeria! Alternatively, groceries can be purchased at grocery stores where prices are not quite unreasonable.

Juo

Tap water is drinkable like in Norway. Even along the road there may be some lake / spring whose water is potable. There is sometimes a big sign about these. In shops, then, all kinds of drinks are expensive, although the cheapest is the same price as in Finland, ie the euro per 1.5 liters.

Sleep

The price level is expensive in Norwegian, but if you happen to own a tent, then at least in the summer there should be no problems. Each municipality has at least one campsite. A tent night might cost 15-20 euros, which is not an unreasonable price. The price can already come from a motorhome / caravan.

Stay safe

The crime rates in the Lofoten are really low, and there will be no sense of being a victim of crime under the Guarantee.
