Loikaw(Burmese: လွိုင်ကော်မြို့) is the capital of Kayah State in Myanmar.

The city is in large part owned by members of the Karen inhabited. Loikaw is one of the politically unstable regions of Myanmar. Visiting the city is temporarily denied to tourists. This was still possible until 1998. You should inquire about the current situation in advance or after your arrival in Yangon.

By plane

By train
With Aungban-Pinlaung-Loikaw Rail Line the city has been connected to the Myanmar railway network since 1994. The trains to Loikaw start in the small town Aungban
In the street
If you want to approach the city on the street, you should either do so from Kalaw or Toungoo try out. Both trips take about 6 hours, but may be forbidden for tourists.
An alternative from the capital Naypyidaw via Pinlaung to Loikaw is now unproblematic, as there are no controls or checkpoints (as of February 2016).
By boat
There is a boat tour that you can take in Nyaung Shwe Can book ($ 55 per boat) but may be illegal for tourists.
The checkpoint has not existed for about 2 years. The boat tour from Nyaungshwe to Pekon (as of February 2016) is now unproblematic and legal.

- Lawpita Falls. These falls are located 20 kilometers east of Loikaw. Myanmar's largest hydroelectric power station is also located there - a reparation made by the Japanese for the Second World War.
