The snowcapped - Los Nevados

Los Nevados, Merida.

The snowcapped it is a small village in the state Merida, located inside the Sierra Nevada National Park, and close to the high peaks of the Mérida mountain range. It is connected only by trails and a narrow dirt road, which makes it one of the most remote and picturesque places in the region.

Context

The town of Los Nevados is located at 2,700 meters above sea level, on one of the slopes that descend from El Toro peak, in the valley of the Nuestra Señora de la Cordillera de Mérida river.

To get

By bus

Public transportation is scarce and limited, the Los Nevados tourist line operates the route every morning, between 07: 00-10: 00 from Las Heroinas square in the center of Mérida, in 4x4 vehicles, the trip can take longer 4 hours.

By car

An old pack road was widened to allow the passage of a vehicle in one direction only in what is known as the El Morro - Los Nevados highway, to get there, you must take the road that goes up from the Chama sector in the area it goes down from Mérida to El Morro through the Sierra Nevada National Park, from there the road is no longer paved and only available for 4x4 vehicles. Due to its condition, it is highly recommended only for experienced drivers and knowledgeable about the area.
