Lydenburg is a town on the highveld on the edge of the Escarpments in the South African province Mpumalanga.

Lydenburg was renamed in 2006 Mashishing, but it will be a long time before the city is known by this name. It lies at the foot of the Long Tom Passes and was founded in 1849 by the Boers. Mashishing is located in the Ehlanzeni district and is the administrative seat of the municipality Thaba Chweu, which has over 80,000 inhabitants and also includes mashishing Grass head, Sabie and Pilgrim's rest belong.
