background

Malchow is built in its old core on an island between the Plauer See and the Fleesensee. Mentioned in writing for the first time in 1147, Malchow received Schwerin town charter from Prince Nikolaus I von Werle in 1235. Even earlier, around 955, Otto the Great is said to have waged a decisive battle against the Wende here. In 1298 Alt-Malchow became the site of the Röbel nunnery.
