Mariscal Estigarribia, is a town in the department of Boquerón in the west of Paraguay which, due to its remote location in the middle of the Gran Chaco is filled with a sort of distant atmosphere. TO 520 km north-west ofAsuncion on the Transchaco road, this is the furthest place from the capital with tourist services for those traveling on the Transchaco, so you must stop here to stock up on supplements before going further into the Chaco desert . By bus
The bus station is located next to the Transchaco. The NASA / Golondrina bus company operates daily buses from Asunción via Filadelfia and Loma Plata first. Also all buses coming from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, stop here because that is where customs and immigrants are located.
A night bus leaves from Asunción every evening to 20 h for Santa Cruz (20 h path, 230 000 PYG) and stop at 2 h - 3 h in the morning at the immigration post of Mariscal where you must complete the formalities for exiting Paraguay.
Since Filadelfia, a bus leaves at 20 h 30 (1 h, 15 000 PYG) for Mariscal. The bus drops you off at the side of the road and 20 min walk will take you to the immigration post where you can wait for the Asunción bus (200 000 PYG) which will arrive in the middle of the night (the starry sky is very beautiful ...).
The bus then stops towards 7 h - 8 h in the morning at the border where you complete the entry formalities in Bolivia. You can also change your money there, but beware of scams (check the exchange rates beforehand).
By car
Mariscal Estigarribia is just on the Transchaco road at 520 km from Asunción and 231 km from Bolivia. If you come from Asunción (approximately 7 h road), you can feel that you have reached the most advanced outpost in civilization. On the other hand, if you are from Bolivia or Argentina, this is where the customs and immigrants office is located. This will be your first contact with the Paraguayan authorities after about 4-5 h drive from the border. The thriving Mennonite settlements of Filadelfia, Loma Plata and Neuland are approximately 100 km At the South-East (1 h 05 driving).
