Matsuyama(Japanese: 松山 市, Matsuyama-shi) is the capital of Ehime Prefecture (Japanese: 愛媛 県, Ehime-ken), in the west of the Japanese island Shikoku.

background

The poet Masaoka Shiki, who was born there, and the novel Botchan by Natsume Soseki belong to Matsuyama. A nostalgic Botchan railway can therefore also be seen on the streets, it goes to the equally famous Dogo bathhouses.

By plane

Airport has an airport. There are daily connections to Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, Naha and Sapporo. A shuttle bus from Matsuyama City Station (not JR station) will take you to the airport in approximately 25 minutes (400 yen).

By train

Matsuyama has 2 train stations, the JR train station and the central train station of the Iyotetsu-Verkehrs AG. The latter is more central and busier, in English Matsuyama City Station (松山 市 駅) called.

By bus

Various long-distance buses from Iyotetsu-Verkehrs AG connect Matsuyama with Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto or with Tokushima and Takamatsu.

In the street

By boat

There are ferries to Hiroshima (the speedboat only takes about 80 minutes), to Osaka / Kôbe as well as to Kitakyushu and Beppu / Oita. They lay in Matsyama at the 'Sightseeing Port' (松山 観 光 港) at. To get to the terminal in Matsuyama, take the Iyotetsu Railway (not the tram!) From Matsuyama City Station to the Takahama terminus (高 浜), from there there is a bus afterwards.

The Iyotetsu tram is convenient for the city. A day pass (1-day ticket) costs 300 yen.
