- Forchtenstein Castle, in Forchtenstein.
- 12 Lackenbach Castle, Castle 1, 7322 Lackenbach. Tel.: 43 2619 20 012. Lackenbach Castle is located 26 km (21 minutes by car) south of Mattersburg. It was built in the middle of the 16th century and thus dates from the Renaissance. Nikolaus Esterházy became the owner of the complex through his marriage. It served the family for both economic and administrative purposes and as a residence. In 1620, Lackenbach Castle was the scene of a battle. Prince Gabor Bethlen wanted to become King of Hungary, which is why he teamed up with revolutionaries from Bohemia. His goal was to overthrow Emperor Ferdinand II. Prince Nikolaus Esterházy, who was also the palatine of Hungary, remained loyal to the emperor. Ultimately, the enemy army also reached Lackenbach. Prince Nikolaus Esterházy was able to offer resistance to the troops until the imperial general came to the rescue and the occupation finally came to an end. The structure of the castle is symmetrical. The heart of the complex is an arcaded courtyard surrounded by bastions. The landscape around the facility, the park, the avenues and the moat surround the castle.
