Mckheta (kartvele: მცხეთა) is a city of Georgia located 15 km north of Tbilisi, at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers. Its historical monuments are cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mtskheta is an important historical city: it was the capital of the Iberian kingdom from the 3rd century BC. until the 5th century AD, until King Dachi moved the capital to Tbilisi.

Jvari Monastery
- La Svetickhoveli Cathedral (სვეტიცხოვლის საკათედრო ტაძარი, literally "cathedral of the living pillar") from the 11th century is the second largest church in Georgia (after the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi). It is one of the most important sites of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
- La Jvari monastery (ჯვრის მონასტერი, literally “monastery of the cross”), from the 6th century, stands on a mountain from where there is a beautiful panorama to the city and surroundings. It is possible to go there by taxi or by bus from the tourist information office for 5 laris.
