Tbilisi has an international airport, located 17 km east of the city. In order to drive from the airport to the city several options exist:

  • By bus 37/137, approximately every half hour, even at night (more information on the website of the Tbilisi transport company. A ride costs 0.50 laris.
  • A taxi costs 20-30 laris, but drivers can try to make you pay more.
  • There is a direct train, but only twice a day (from the airport at 08:35 and 17:40, from Tbilisi at 07:50 and 16:55). A ride costs 0.50 laris.

Another option is to fly to Kutaiso; the company GeorgianBus provides a bus connection between its airport and Tbilisi.

At the Didube (დიდუბე) metro station there is a bus station, from which many buses and minibuses run to the whole country.

Most buses travel in the morning; in the afternoon they are fewer and after 16:00 it can be difficult to find a bus to the rest of the country.

  • Old Tbilisi: the historic center is a charming neighborhood with sloping alleys, old-fashioned balconies and ancient churches.
  • Cathedral of the Holy Trinity (1) (თბილისის წმინდა სამების საკათედრო ტაძარი), built between 1995 and 2004, is the largest religious building in Georgia.
  • Fort Narikala (ნარიყალა): from there you will have a beautiful view of the city. It is possible to go up on foot from the old center or by cable car. The nearest metro station is Avalabari.
  • Mtatsminda Park (მთაწმინდა, literally "holy mountain")
