Metsovo is a place in the region Ioannina in the east of the greek province Epirus and is located on the edge of the historical region of Zagoria.

background

The place Metsovo is located at an altitude of 1,160 m in the Pindus Mountains on the border with the province Thessaly. In earlier years the road led from Metsovo over the Katara Pass, which was the highest Greek pass road at over 1,700 m. Since the opening of the autobahn A2 as Egnatia Odos this passport has lost much of its importance.

The municipality of Metsovo also includes other small communities; the village is visible from the center of the village Anilio on the other side of a ravine.
