Most Javanese speak Javanese and there are still plenty who only speak Javanese and no Indonesian. With about a hundred million speakers, Javanese is also the largest language in Indonesia. The language has different language phases: Old Javanese, Middle Javanese, New Javanese and Modern Javanese and a rich literary history and development. Javanese also has different speaking styles: Ngoko, Krama (polite) and Krama Inggil which is used in the vicinity of the sultan.

Routes

Travelers coming from Bandung or pangandaran in West Java often go first to Wonosobo, a good base to visit the Dieng Plateau. From here you can travel to Yogyakarta and Surakarta from where also the temple complexes of Borobudur and Prambanan can be visited.

The volcano Merapic

Those who like adventure can climb the volcano Merapic(Gunung Merapi, literally: Fire Mountain) consider, the most active volcano in a country where people have some experience with active volcanoes. This cone-shaped volcano, 2911 m high, has erupted regularly in recent centuries, the last time in 2010. Of course, an ascent is only possible when the volcano is at rest. It is a strenuous, arduous journey that is not without danger but is rewarded with an absolutely spectacular view. Experienced hikers can reach the top in about 3 hours from the last village on the northern slope. However, only do this with a reliable guide.
