Mikołajki(German: Nikolaiken) is a city in the Polish Voivodeship Warmia-Masuria.

The city is in the Great Masurian Lakes and has a modern marina for sailing boats. Since most of the great lakes are connected by numerous canals, you can sail, kayak or take a houseboat for hundreds of kilometers.

Mikołajki is picturesquely located between Spirding and Talter waters (Jezioro Talty). The beauty of the place earned him the nickname "Masurian Venice". In the summer months the number of residents increases many times over. There is a large marina, many hotels, guest houses and holiday apartments, campsites, restaurants, cafes and shops. The nearby Łuknajno Lake is Europe's largest biosphere reserve for mute swans and there is a Museum of the Reformation in the village.

There is a regular bus service from Warsaw Central Station. The bus station in Nikolaiken is located at the Evangelical Church.

By boat

The Masurian shipping maintains a regular liner service. Nikolaiken can also be reached by houseboat. There is a large marina next to the port for mooring.

Tourist Attractions

  • Protestant church. Classical building. Mid-19th century structure covered with a pitched roof. In the presbytery there are portraits of local pastors. In the parsonage, also from the 19th century, you can find translations by Martin Luther and a lot of pictures of old Nikolaiken and of course many documents from the parish.
  • Fountain with whitefish. In the large square in front of the famous Hotel Mazur there is a fountain with the crowned fish sculpture. It depicts the legendary whitefish king who, caught in the net and chained to the bridge, was supposed to secure the local fishermen one day great yield and prosperity.

There are restaurants in abundance, especially along the attractive promenade. It is recommended, however, from the large square, Plac Wolnosci, at the Hotel Mazur to choose the small pedestrian alley to the northeast and to go to the somewhat secluded restaurants, offer better service and more moderate prices. The red ATMs on the promenade are not recommended. At the Hotel Mazur you will find a bank with an ATM. Likewise, the Lewiatan supermarket. Good butcher the main street to the northwest, before the intersection the small alley to the southwest. There is also a Biedronka supermarket northeast of the church, but it's a long way. Look at the signets on the city map.

From the road bridge to the south, Nikolaiken offers a wonderful promenade which is lined with various restaurants. About 1 km south there is also an Ekomarina.
