Monroeville is a small town in Monroe County in Alabama.

background

In 1815 a small settlement was built at Walker's Mill and Store. In 1832 the county seat was moved here and the settlement was named Centerville, until it was renamed Monroeville in 1899 (in memory of former US President James Monroe). The author Harper Lee was born and died here, the writer Truman Capote spent his childhood here.
