Mont-de-Marsan is a city in New Aquitaine. It is the seat of the department Country. At the same time, the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan, which consists of 17 cantons, is managed from here.

In Mont-de-Marsan, the two rivers Midou and Douze merge to form the Midouze river.

Tourist Attractions

  • Église de la Madeleine. Built 1825-1830 on the site of the old Gothic predecessor church (on map no. 10).
  • 1  Église de Saint-Médard. Built towards the end of the 11th century.
  • Lacataye donjon. With the Musee de Mont-de-Marsan. (In city map no. 3) Very nice view over the city.
  • Maison novels. Roman house. In city map No. 1.
  • 1  Arènes du Plumaçon. The bullring was built between 1880 and 1889.
  • Sculpture exhibition, In the pedestrian zone.
  • Further points from the city map:
    • 1 - On Rue Maubec there are 12th century houses made of shell limestone Uchacq-et-Parentis are erected. At the western end that Maison novels
    • 2 - Remains of the old city wall from the Middle Ages
    • 4 - Place de Général de Gaulle: The market hall and the municipal theater (restored in 1927) have stood here in place of the former castle since 1829-1830. The city library and the town hall from 1846 are also located here.
    • 5 - Permanent exhibitions and occasional rallies
    • 6 - In the rue Armand Dulamon (a lawyer important for the place) are worth seeing: the house facade of the prison (Maison d'arrêt), the Palais d'Artigues and the Palais Dupeyre.
    • 7 - Pont du Commerce: camera position for the cover picture.
    • 8 - Place Joseph Pancaut (named after an important merchant): old trading center and seat of various old trading houses.
    • 9 - Rue Victor Hugo: The "main artery" of the city with various buildings from the 19th century: Prefectur, Palace of Justice, prison and old gendarmerie
    • 11 - La Minoterie: The old flour mill, now the tourist information office and exhibition site. As early as the 10th century, i.e. before the city was founded, a watermill has been found at this point. On the left bank of the Midouze (right in the picture) was the old port, not far from the old trading houses on Place Joseph Pancaut (No. 8).
