• 12.09318-61.635771 Mount Carmel Falls (take the road to Mont Fann to the north. In a very tight hairpin turn left (directions: “Mount Carmel Waterfalls”). When the road splits in two, park the vehicle on the right branch (in the axis of the road), the steepest. The access path is on the right when you arrive, behind a small bar) Accessible 24 hours a day. Free access. – The falls feature two waterfalls, with the upper waterfall being the tallest. From the road, access is on foot in about a quarter of an hour. The trail leads to the upper waterfall, where you can swim. To reach the lower waterfall, descend the path for about fifty meters and cross the river at a ford, on slippery slabs. It is possible to bathe in the basin at the foot of the waterfall and to slide along the waterfall, going up to its upper part. The path is very slippery, sports or walking shoes are strongly recommended. The ford is crossed barefoot. Along the way, one can observe plantations of cocoa trees, fruit trees, bamboo, papyrus and yams. Wildlife includes toads, termites and butterflies. Local guides are permanently at the fork of the roads and insistently offer their services. The interest is that it allows to have the comments and indications of the natives. The downside lies in the fact that it is not free: a gratuity is requested at the end of the journey (count around 5 XCD). The full visit takes 1 hour to 1 h 30. (last update March 2018)
