Mthatha (earlier Umtata) is a city of the province Eastern Cape in South Africa.
background
Mthatha was founded in 1883 on the banks of the river of the same name. During apartheid it was by that name Umtata the capital of Transkei.

By plane
The airport K.D. Matanzima Airport was named after Emperor Matanzima, who was the head of the Bantu and lived from 1915 to 2003. The airport is also considered easy among the population of South Africa Umtata Airport known. The distance to the city center is around 13 km.
