Mustafapaşa is a village in Cappadocia in the Turkey.

background

The oldest traces of settlement go back to the 10th century AD. The first cave churches were built here. But unlike in other villages in Cappadocia a stonemason art developed in Mustafapaşa which led to many small houses decorated with ornaments. Until 1923 this village was mainly inhabited by Greek citizens and was called Sinasos. In the course of the population exchange, this changed as well as the name of the place and Sinasos became Mustafapaşa, which did not change the beauty of the village.

The village is a sight in itself. Small alleys with beautiful decorated houses invite you to explore. But if that's not enough, there is more for you:

  • Ayios Konstantinos Kilise. One of the few free-standing churches from 1729 (another can be found in Cemil). Restored from the outside and beautiful to look at, this requires a ticket for 8 TL for a visit. If you only want to visit this church, you should save the money, because inside you will only find an empty hall. But the ticket also allows you to visit the other churches in Mustafapaşa.
  • Madrasah. This medrese located in the center shows a richly decorated portal.
  • Mustafapaşa Kasabası Camii. This mosque, opposite the madrasa, dates from 1601 and was extensively restored in 1979.
