Mostar is the capital of the region of Herzegovina, one of the two traditional regions that make up the modern country of Bosnia Herzegovina.
Context
Mostar became infamous during the Balkan War, especially for the destruction of its bridge, an emblem of the city and of Ottoman art, which had also been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Today it is rebuilt, with which it can be admired again, but the images of the destruction of the bridge have already remained for posterity. The bridge over the river, during the war, separated the two parts of the city: one, where the Catholic Croats lived, and the other, where the Muslim Bosnians lived; that is why the bridge was the scene of the main battles. To this day you can still see buildings in ruins, destroyed and shot down, and some even with holes from a shell.
