Of the approximately 130 islands in the Northern Sporades are primarily the four main islands of tourist interest. These are:
- 1 Skiathos
(Σκιάθος). 48 km², main island of the Sporades. Although it is neither the largest nor the most attractive island of the Sporades, it has by far the most tourism, including package tourism.
- 2 Skopelos
(Σκόπελος). 95 km², is one of the greenest islands in the Aegean with many beautiful beaches.
- 3 Alonissus
(Αλόννησος). 64 km², it offers no special sights or archaeological sites, it is nature and the beautiful beaches that draw visitors here. It is very popular with sailors because of the many bays where they can anchor easily.
- 4 Skyros
(Σκύρος). 209 km², while the southern part of the island is mountainous, barren, stony and uninhabited, the northern part, in which almost all islanders live, is characterized by lush vegetation and beautiful beaches.
Other larger islands are:
- 1 Kyra Panagia - The largest uninhabited island in the northern Sporades with a monastery that can only be reached by boat.
- 2 Peristera - almost uninhabited except for a few houses in the bay of Vasilikos.
- 3 Gioura - uninhabited rock island, known is the cave of the "Cyclops", which is of rare beauty with many stalagmites and stalactites. The island is a nature reserve due to the biotopes and caves that are natural refuge for the Mediterranean monk seal).
- 4 Skantzoura - uninhabited with abandoned monastery complex.
- 5 Piperi - The centerpiece of the national park and the most important biotope of the Mediterranean monk seal and birds of prey.
While Skyros is administratively part of the Euboea prefecture in Central Greece belongs, the three other islands together with their smaller neighboring islands form the Sporades district in the prefecture Thessaly.

On each of the tourist islands there are good public bus connections and rental cars, mopeds, etc.

Beach tourism and popular water sports are the main activities. The islands are suitable for rest and relaxation. Only Skiathos has a noteworthy nightlife.
