Volos is a city in the Greek region Thessaly. It is located in the Magnisia district at the foot of the Pelion Mountains and is considered by some "Greece connoisseurs" to be the "icing on the cake" of all Greek cities.

By plane
The airport 1 Nea Aghialos Airport is located approx. 25 km southwest of Volos, it is mostly flown to in charter operations. Austrian Airlines offers a weekly flight to / from Vienna.

Of the 2 Volos train station there is a connection after Larisa.
By bus
A bus to Volos runs several times a day from Athens, near the Kato Patissia S-Bahn station. To do this, get off at Kato Patissia, in the direction of the city center (i.e. coming from the airport, the platform with the ticket booth), up the short stairs of the S-Bahn station (in the direction of travel) and take the fifth turn to the right (at a broken barber's sign) so you walk past a bar and straight to the bus station. But taxi drivers also know the way. Departure times are 4.30 a.m., 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 10.30 a.m., 11.30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1.30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3.30 p.m., 4.30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The bus is usually not fully booked. The journey to Volos takes a good 4 hours (price: 27.40 €, summer 2014) and ends near the cargo port, i.e. less than an hour's walk from the ferry port or from Volos' city center. Tickets to other cities are also offered in the bus station. A website for this is available in Greek (http://www.ktelvolou.gr).

From 3 port there are ferry connections to Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, every now and then a cruise ship also docks.

- 1 Dimini archaeological site (Διμήνι). The oldest finds date from the Neolithic Age (4,300 to 3,300 BC), the pottery found is called Dimini culture designated. Other finds are the Mycenaean culture assign.
- 2 Sesklo archaeological site (Σέσκλο Μαγνησίας, Αρχαιολογικός Χώρος Νεολιθικός Οικισμός Σέσκλο). The site is located in the vicinity of the village of Sesklo. It was around the time 6,300-5,300 BC. settled, the ceramic finds from that time are assigned to the Sesklo culture.
- 4 Tsalapatas Museum (Μουσείο Πλινθοκεραμοποιίας, The Rooftile and Brickworks Museum N. & S. Tsalapatas), Notia Pyli (South Gate). Brick and stone museum.
