Naoussa, Greek Νάουσα, is a fishing village in the north of the island Paros on the Cyclades.

background

The port of Naoussa is located in a wide bay and is considered one of the most beautiful ports in the Aegean. In ancient times it was the most important port on the island, from here the famous Parian marble was shipped. In the Middle Ages the port was fortified by the Venetians, from whom the freely accessible remains of a round tower still come. From that time, some archways of the once walled fishing village are still preserved.

The old town center of Naoussa has remained almost completely intact and presents itself as a labyrinth of narrow streets. The houses built in the typical Cycladic style are often two-story, the stairs to the upper floor are in the alley, and under the stairs there was often space for a toilet. Today this small room is often used as a warehouse and shop window, with floral decorations on the steps.

The fishing port is largely intact, but the houses are often home to taverns. But there is still a pier where the fishermen sit and fix their nets. From here boats also go to the beaches in the area.
