Veluwezoom National Park is a 5000 hectare nature reserve on the Veluwe in the province of Gelderland that is owned by the Natuurmonumenten association.

History

In 1911, Natuurmonumenten bought the Hagenau forest area, including the Carolina farm. In 1930, Veluwezoom National Park became the first national park in the Netherlands. In later years it was expanded with new purchases.

The landscape alternates between forests and moors.

The climate in the park is similar to that of its immediate vicinity.

Arrive

The area is located north of Velp, Rhedem, de Steeg, Ellecom and Dieren. There are stations in Velp, Rheden and Dieren. The park is served by the LAW Maarten van Rossumpad and the regional path Veluwe Zwerfpad.

Entrance

There is no entrance fee.

Travel around

The park lends itself very well to cycling and walking tours. There are some highways, which can be busy on nice days.

There are no overnight accommodations in the park. There are hotels and camping sites in the above mentioned places as well as in Arnhem.

Safety

There are no particular security risks. The general advice is to be attentive to ticks and oak processionary caterpillars.
