The Białowieża National Park(Polish: Białowieski Park Narodowy) is a national park in Poland. He lies in Białowieża Primeval Forest in the voivodeship Podlaskie on the border to Belarus at Białowieżawhere the administrative headquarters of the national park is located.

history

The park was designated as early as 1932, making it one of the oldest national parks in Europe.

The national park is 105.17 km² and is the largest national park in Poland.

Flora and fauna

It houses one of the last primeval forests in Europe, in which bison, elk, deer, bears, wolves, lynxes, beavers, short-toed eagles and owls still live. The symbol of the national park is the bison.

climate

Due to the location, the weather in the nature park is continental with cold winters and warm to hot summers.

getting there

Of Białystok buses drive to Białowieża and Hajnówka. The national park is only about an hour's drive from Białystok.

Fees / permits

Entry to the national park is chargeable from April 16 to October 15.

Day tickets cost:

  • Reduced: 5 zloty (approx. EUR 1.20)
