overview

Set up near ancient Poleg, Netanya was originally part of the city Palestine Tulkarem before 1948, when the area was used by Palestinian farmers, Jewish settlement in the area began in 1928 with the establishment of citrus farms. There is great controversy over the Palestinian-Israeli interpretation of whether the land was sold (initially by non-resident Arab landowners) during the British Domination. 14 kilometers from the Palestinian city of Tulkarm, Netanya suffered from Palestinian terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens, notably the March 2002 attack known as the Fruit Picking Massacre.
