The Palestine is a historic region of Middle East. The current political scope of the designation is more limited. Palestine (فلسطين) is understood here in the political and cultural sense of the part of the territories between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River represented as an observer by the PLO at the UN, and administered-governed by thePalestinian Authority Arab. This part includes the Gaza strip and the riverside region of the Jordan River known in French West Bank (in English West Bank : West shore). The other part which is not the subject of the presentation below is administered-governed by the State ofIsrael.

Other destinations

To go

First to go to the West Bank (Engl. West Bank) you have to go to East Jerusalem (Al Quds in Arabic).

If you are arriving from the Israeli Ben-Gurion Airport, at the exit go to the right towards the place where the collective taxis are ("sheirut" in Hebrew). It is much cheaper than individual taxis.

Ask the driver to go to Jerusalem's Damasus Gate. Once there is a large parking lot with other shared taxis driven by Palestinians with Israeli citizenship. You can then ask them to drive you to Ramallah, Hebron or Nablus ...

Circulate

We strongly recommend that you use shared taxis, which are very numerous and very affordable.

On the other hand, it is not recommended to rent an Israeli car. You would risk being mistaken for an “Israeli settler” and this could be risky depending on the prevailing situation in the territories.

To speak

The official language is Arabic, but many Palestinians speak English, whether they are NGO workers, students, young people in general, etc.

French is also spoken by students and a small part of the population. You should know that the French are very popular in this country with congratulations on the attitude of De Gaulle, Chirac and Zidane for the youngest.

To buy

The most used currency in Palestine is the Israeli Shekel (₪, ILS), the Egyptian pound (E £, الجنيه المصري, EGP) is used in Gaza strip. The Jordanian currency, the Jordanian dinar (dinar, JOD) is also sometimes used in West Bank.

Eat

Palestinian breakfast
  • You will find a lot of fast food stalls to eat very affordable kebabs or falafels.
  • Olive oil
  • The Zaatar
  • Hummus

Have a drink / Go out

  • When we move away from Jerusalem and Ramallah, it becomes difficult to findalcohol. Palestinians consume it, it's an open secret, but more discreetly because it is frowned upon.
  • The Taybeh[1], is Palestinian beer. It is tasted in a blonde version (golden), amber (amber) and brown (dark). Recently there has been an alcohol-free Taybeh. The brewery is located near Ramallah and is open to visits.

Housing

In East Jerusalem there are plenty of cheap hotels that cost around NIS 30 a night.

Security

As long as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not resolved, it is difficult, even dangerous, to travel to Palestine, yet many visitors regularly disembark in Israel. The latest statistics show a clear increase in tourists over the past 2 years.

For any visitor to Palestine it is recommended to keep constantly informed of the political situation which can change very quickly.
