To look at

The Noordoostpolder was largely created by damming and draining this area. As a result, the villages were created in a planned manner, while trying to make it seem as if the villages came into being on their own. The island of Schokland, completely enclosed by the polder, is located on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Lange Nering shopping street underwent a metamorphosis until 2007. Entrepreneurs noticed that the center was impoverishing and turnover fell. The canopies will be replaced, shops will be expanded, kiosks in the middle of the street will be demolished and the street furniture and pavement will be tackled. The refurbishment has also ensured that many new entrepreneurs have joined. For example, catering has been added, but several well-known retail chains have also moved to Emmeloord. The municipality expects to have completed all work by July 2007. After this, the Short Back is tackled. This is mainly a street for new and innovative entrepreneurs.

When the population of the Noordoostpolder municipality will increase in a positive sense, the shopping and entertainment offer will be significantly increased on De Deel in the future. The market is currently held here every Thursday morning. Major events also take place here and the bus station is located on this square. Large retail chains and various entertainment venues should come to De Deel. Next to Theater 't Voorhuys, a new and much larger cinema with different halls will be built in a few years. Below a casino will be realized.
