getting there
The journey usually takes place via the regional capital Florence, where there is one Florence Airport(IATA: FLR) ("Amerigo Vespucci"; and there is an important long-distance train station. This is where the high-speed trains stop Frecciarossa ("Red Arrow") and Frecciargento (“Silver Arrow”) with connections from the directions Turin – Milan–, (Udine– / Triest–) Venice – Padua–, (Bozen– / Brescia–) Verona, Bologna and Salerno – Naples – Rome. There are also direct night trains (Nightjet) from Munich / Rosenheim / Innsbruck and Vienna / Klagenfurt / Villach. The fastest connections from Munich to Florence take around 7½ hours (change in Verona or Bologna), from Zurich 6½ hours (via Milan), from Innsbruck 5½ hours, from Bozen a good three hours.
The main road axis is the A1 Bologna – Florence – Rome motorway. From the west, coming from Pisa and Genoa, the A11 also leads into northern Tuscany, past Pistoia and Prato to Florence. A direct connection between the west coast (Pisa and Livorno) and Florence is the motorway-like expressway (SCG) Firenze-Pisa-Livorno "FI-PI-LI".

Bardiccio, bardiccio fiorentino, salsiccia matta is a typical Tuscan sausage, similar to Burischiowhose preparation is based on the use of the less valuable and richer parts of the pig's blood. Their typical dark red color depends on the amount of heart, usually beef, that is used in the mix. The Burischio has the characteristic shape of a sausage, but is longer and is filled into a pig's intestine and tied with string. It is made from September to May and consumed fresh. Bardiccio is specially protected as a traditional Italian food (PAT: Prodotti agroalimentari tradizionali italiani).
