The Northwest Territory (Northwest Territories) is a Canadian territory. It is adjacent to the west Yukon, in the east Nunavut, in the southwest British Columbia, in the south Alberta and to the southeast at Saskatchewan. In the extreme southeast, the territory also meets the four-country corner Four corners to the province Manitoba.
After the Great Lakes, the largest lakes in Canada can be found here, such as the Great Bear Lake with an area of 31,153 km² and the Great Slave Lake with 27,048 km². Between the by far largest lakes lies Lac la Martre, the third largest lake in the territory with 1776 km²
Regions
The Northwest Territories are divided into five regions that roughly correspond to the territories of the original indigenous people:
- South Slave (south of Great Slave Lake). The main parish in this region is Fort Smith.
- North Slave (north of Great Slave Lake). The main parish in this region is the capital, Yellowknife.
- Deh Cho. The main parishes in this region are Hay River and Fort Simpson.
- Sahtu. The main parish in this region is Norman Wells.
- Beaufort Delta / Arctic Coast, which can be further subdivided into the settlement areas of Gwich'in and Inuvialuit. The main parish in this region is Inuvik.

security
Anyone venturing into remote areas to enjoy outdoor activities must be very careful and have the right equipment. Ambulance and air ambulances are very expensive. It is also important to learn about the dangers of wildlife and the rapidly changing climate. It should also be remembered that the water temperature in the Northwest Territories remains very cold. Therefore, in case of hypothermia, one must have the necessary equipment ready when venturing out on the water.
