Nunavik includes the territory of Quebec located north of 55e parallel. It is made up of boreal forests, tundra and glaciers that are home to herds of caribou.
90% of the inhabitants of Nunavik are Inuit and there are also Crees, particularly in Whapmagoostui, and the Naskapi, mainly in Kawawachikamach. There is no road connection between Nunavik and southern Quebec. The closest roads are the Transtaïga road which ends at the Caniapiscau reservoir near the 55e parallel and the James Bay road which ends in Radisson at about 250 km from the twin villages of Whapmagoostui and Kuujjuarapik.
Nunavik is connected year round by air and all the main villages have an airport. The region is also connected by sea in summer and fall.

There is no road that connects the communities of Nunavik. The plane is the main means of transport between the villages. Inside the villages, snowmobiles and quad bikes are the main means of transportation. These are also sometimes used to travel from one community to another.
