The Oasis Park is an animal park on Fuerteventura that extends over almost 800,000 square meters. It is a modern zoo that complements its program with shows and other attractions. There is space for around 250 animal species here and can be admired. The park is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (as of 2011).

getting there

There are five bus routes from the tourist centers to Oasis Park in the morning and back again in the evening. These are free and there is no need to buy a ticket. Using the buses without visiting the park is therefore possible, but not very useful, as there is not much around the park and the next larger town (Costa Calma) is 7 kilometers away.

If you don't want to stick to the schedule of the parking buses, you can go from Costa Calma or Jandia Beach arrive comfortably by bus. Bus trips can be booked from many other holiday resorts. So you have the advantage that you can be guided by a tour guide, but you don't have to. But you can also travel by car. Sufficient parking space is available.

The park is on the FV2, the national road that runs from Costa Calma to Jandia Beach and Morro Jable leads. If you drive past the park, you can't actually miss it. Large signs and cultivated areas indicate it. If you arrive by car, there is a very large free car park available. It's not far from here to the entrance.

Fees / permits

Admission (as of 2015) for adults 33 euros, children up to 11 years 19 euros. The price includes all shows and the transfers offered on the site.

mobility

Since the park is very large, you should definitely wear sturdy shoes. Since there is a lot to discover, you should definitely allow yourself plenty of time to see as much as possible. There is the so-called jungle bus in the Oasis Park, with which you can drive from the zoo area almost to the birds of prey show. This is included in the price and you should also use it, because it is going up a lot. On the way down you can enjoy the Botanical Garden.

Attractions

The botanical garden

Oasis Park's botanical garden specializes in cacti. If you want to explore the area in detail, you should bring some time with you. It begins below the birds of prey show with numerous cacti of the most varied of species, only to get greener and greener down the mountain. The jungle below is then modeled on it. The area is quite large, but it is worth looking at. Fortunately, it is never very crowded here because most visitors prefer to go to the zoo section of the park.

Animals

A giraffe in Oasis Park

Of course, the Oasis Park also offers a large zoo area. The enclosures are almost all very spacious and you have a good view of the animals from several places. A large part is dedicated to African animals from the savannah. Among other things, giraffes, elephants, hippos, zebras, ostriches, antelopes and cheetahs can be seen. There is also an enclosure for young crocodiles and an enclosure for flamingos. But snakes have also been thought of. But there are also some species of monkeys, such as chimpanzees or taffeta. The dwarf otter enclosure is also beautiful, where you can watch the animals drifting under and above the water. The kangaroos that live in the middle of the savannah are a bit out of the subject. Several types of animal feed are sold in front of certain enclosures to attract the animals.

All enclosures are modern and large in order to enable the animals to lead a species-appropriate lifestyle as much as possible.

Shows

Parrots in Oasis Park

Like all parks of this type, the Oasis Park lives from its shows. If you follow the signs, you can actually pass all the performances, but you have to pay attention to the start times (2 to 4 times a day). All shows are best when it's not that crowded. Then you get to know more and have more of the opportunity to be close to the animals.

The parrot show

The parrot show is usually the first show you go to because it is not far from the entrance. The birds have a small stage on which they can show their little tricks. But they also fly around over the audience in the small hall. They're not particularly great tricks that you wouldn't know from other shows, but they put a lot in the right light and it's performed in an exciting way. If you stay a little longer after the demonstration and it is not very crowded, you can still experience the birds up close. The director of the show is available for many explanations and she distributes her birds on the shoulders and fingers of the guests. You will be amazed how difficult such a macaw is.

The birds of prey show

The birds of prey show is a bit out of the way in Oasis Park. This is because the birds fly freely during the demonstration and therefore need space. You can use a transfer to the show, then you don't have to walk the route. From a grandstand you can see the tricks that the trainers have taught the birds. They use the training equipment that they use to train the birds. A lot is explained, but in different languages, you have to be careful. The show is quite spectacular and worth seeing.

The sea lion show

A very nice stadium has been created for the sea lion show. You can see very well from all places what the animals are doing in the pool. If you get there early, you should get a seat in the aisle, because the special thing here is that the trainers also go into the audience with the sea lions. It's a great moment when a sea lion like this passes by in front of you. Please don't touch, the animals and the trainers who are always there don't like that. There are certainly more spectacular shows with sea lions, but this one is thoroughly entertaining and has its special features. Definitely not to be missed.

The reptile show

The reptiles have also got a small stadium. Here, too, it is good to sit down in first gear, because this is where you have the greatest chance to come into contact with the animals. Here, too, the trainers come around with some animals and you have the chance to have a crocodile or a ball python on your arm. But the show is also nice to watch. The trainers show a few tricks with the animals. It looks dangerous at times, but it really doesn't seem to be.

activities

Camel safari

Departure for the camel safari

The Oasis Park is known for its camel safari. it is particularly popular with children. It goes outside the park over a route with numerous wide and beautiful views, including the botanical garden and the sea. The safari starts opposite the entrance to the park and is separate from the actual visit to the park. The safari costs (as of 2016) for adults 10 euros for children (4 to 11 years old) 8 euros.

farm

The farm is located on the grounds of the Oasis Park and is a special attraction, especially for children. In Germany one would certainly call the farm a petting zoo. Here you can get to know the animals that live on such a farm up close.

playground

The playground is of course also intended for the little ones. It is quite an extensive area on which the children can occupy themselves for a long time. That relaxes from the quite exhausting tour in the Oasis Park. However, getting the children away from here is not that easy, because the playground offers a lot more than the playground at home.

to buy

Otter in the Oasis Park

There are three stores in Oasis Park. Here you can buy the usual souvenirs and postcards, as you are used to from such a park. There is also a garden center, comparable to the garden department of a hardware store.

Farmers market

Every Sunday there is a farmers market between the entrance area and the garden center. No admission ticket is required for this. Products from agriculture and handicrafts are sold.

to eat and drink

Flamingos in the Oasis Park

There are three restaurants on the premises where you can get supplies. There are vending machines for drinks and ice cream everywhere in the park. However, there is nothing wrong with bringing your own food. Nobody has anything against it and you can take a break in numerous places. That makes things cheaper and it's really nice.

Sleep

You cannot stay overnight in Oasis Park. Doesn't actually make any sense. In one day everything worth seeing should actually be able to be achieved. If you want to stay longer, you can try the nearby one Costa Calma to get a room. Costa Calma is a pure tourist place with numerous hotels.

security

Since the Oasis Park is an animal park, the general guidelines naturally apply here. The most important thing is to carry your valuables with you in such a way that you can always see them and secure them. Opportunity creates thieves, says the vernacular, and there is something to it here too. It is best to only take what you really need to the park. Overall, the subject of crime does not play a role in Oasis Park.

literature

Before going to Oasis Park, get a map of the park. This is very generous at all travel agencies. If necessary, they can also be downloaded from the Internet. The map is very simple, but you can get an overview of how you want to make your way through the park. You always have to change it slightly due to the starting times of the shows, but you get a good overview of what is in store for you. So the park should be manageable in one day.
