Morro Jable is a popular vacation spot on the peninsula Jandía South of Fuerteventura. Meanwhile he is with the neighboring places Jandía and Solana Matorral grown together and forms the largest tourist center of Fuerteventura, these places are administered by the municipality Pájara.

There is a statue near the port, its inscription says that Cirilo López Umpiérrez founded the place in 1899. By car

The place Morro Jable is located in the very south of Fuerteventura at the end of the main road FV 2. This begins at the capital, 90 km away Puerto del Rosario, it is currently (2018) being expanded to four lanes on the Jandía peninsula. The road goes through Jandía near the coast and ends shortly after Morro Jable. A gravel road then leads to the southwestern end of the peninsula.

By bus

During the day, buses run several times a day Puerto del Rosario. The line 1 drives partly inland and not via the airport, the Line 10 drives to the airport.

Other buses serve routes in the vicinity of Morro Jable: Line 4, Line 5, Line 9, Line 25 and Line 111.

  • The core of Morro Jable around the "Piazza de Pescadores" has a certain charm. There you can find the statue of the "city founder" and learn some details about the history from display boards.

Pico de la Zarza

The hike to Fuerteventura's highest peak, including the way back, takes between 4 and 5 hours. There are 807 meters of altitude to be overcome on a 7 km hiking trail. The path begins at the hikers' car park at the end of Calle Sancho Panza (position: 28.0594, -14.3283). Good shoes are mandatory. The path mostly consists of loose gravel and gravel. Therefore, there is a risk of slipping, especially on the way back: Behind the summit the mountains drop steeply to Playa de Cofete and a fall would be fatal. Tours through the Jandía Natural Park to the southwesternmost point of the island on Punta de Jandía and to the small place Cofete, they are offered with a guide. If you want to do these tours on your own, you should take out appropriate insurance coverage for the rental vehicle, the gravel roads can be driven on with a normal car, but have a higher risk. Additional premium approx. € 10 / day (as of 2012). The town of Cofete and the beach there can be reached by a small bus, which is set up as a four-wheel drive vehicle on a Unimog. It is the Line 111, with which you can get from the Bus station from there and back at 12pm and 4pm. The driving time is 45 minutes and sometimes the driver even makes a photo stop in between. There is a small one in Cofete restaurant, one Viewing hill with a wind rotor to generate electricity for the village and one graveyard at the beach.
