activities

There are numerous more or less well-known hiking destinations in the vicinity of Odda. The most famous are the Folgefonna Glacier and the Trolltunga.

Sunndal (Odda - RV551 - Sunndal) is the ideal starting point for hikes to Folgefonna from the west. From there you can reach the glacier tongue in about three hours Bondhusbrea to reach. The tourist huts can also be reached from Sunndal in five to six hours Breidablikk and Fonnabu. Both are equipped with beds, stoves and firewood. The Fonnabu also offers a large warehouse of various foods. For the use of the food you have to leave a corresponding amount of money. You can hike directly from Odda via Buerdalen to Buerbreen (two to three hours), a split glacier tongue of eastern Folgefonna. Except for warm and sturdy hiking gear (especially up to Fonnabu), no special equipment is required for these hikes. If you want to cross the Folgefonna, it is advisable to hire a local guide. A glacier should never be entered by inexperienced or individual hikers.

Northeast of Odda is the famous Trolltunga. The approx. 1000 m high ledge protrudes a few meters from the rock face. The dammed Ringedalsvatnet is 600 m below this. From Odda it is best to drive by car on the RV13 to Tyssedal and turn right there towards Skjeggedal. After a short time you will reach the car park (chargeable, approx. 100 NOK). From there you can use the path of the disused funicular railway Mågeliban (not allowed) or the footpath that starts directly below. One route takes about five hours, and solid, warm hiking clothing is recommended.

In addition, there are various shorter or longer paths that refresh the hiker, especially with the fantastic views that are constantly available.
