Ordu (formerly Kotyora) is on the south coast of the Black Sea in the Turkey and has approx. 224,100 inhabitants.

Ordu, too, was probably founded by Milesian settlers at the foot of Boztepes in the 7th century. The original name was Kotyora. In the 14th century the center of the village was shifted by 5 km, but this only lasted four centuries. Then the center of the village was moved back to the Boztepe. Since then, Ordu has developed splendidly thanks to the hazelnut cultivation.

If you drive along the coastal road by car, it is impossible to miss the city. The bus connections on the coastal road are very good. These buses start from the bus station, which is 1.5 km in the direction Giresun is on the coastal road.

By boat

Ordu is on the ferry route Istanbul - Trabzon connected.

In Ordu you can move comfortably with the dolmuş. The dolmuşe after Gölköy start from the bus station, which is 1.5 km in the direction Giresun is on the coastal road. The dolmuşe after Ünye and Samsun start at Ataturk Bulvari as well as the Dolmuşe in the direction Giresun. The dolmuşe after Çambaşi depart from the stadium.

In Ordu:

  • Pasaoglu-Konak. The Ethnographic Museum is integrated in the former residence of a Caucasian emigrant. Both the outside and the interior of the building have been faithfully restored to the 19th century. The museum is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry costs about 3 TL.
  • Greek Church. In the western part of the city there is a church from 1853 that was converted into a prison and then into a cultural center in 1923.
  • Boztepe. A popular vantage point that is 450 meters above sea level and offers a beautiful view of the city. A 2.4-kilometer cable car leads to the Boztepe excursion mountain.

In the area: archeology is still in its infancy here. True to an old Turkish proverb "No matter where you dig in Turkey, you will always find at least a few antique pottery shards", old grave caves are said to have been found in the area.

  • Gölköy. This village, located in the Pontic region approx. 60 km from Ordu, is an ideal starting point for hikes and trekking. Simple overnight accommodations are given. You can get information at the tourist information office in the town hall. Tel .: 90 452 2232922.
  • Çambaşi. This alpine pasture, located in the Pontic area approx. 60 km from Ordu, is 1900 m above sea level and rises up to 3295 m above sea level. (There are others, e.g .: Persembe Yaylasi, Keyfalan, Argın or Topçam). Ideal starting point for hikes and trekking. Simple overnight accommodations are given.   • Fatsa. This little place halfway through is known for its seashells.
  • Perşembe. In this small town, 30 km away on the coastal road, there is a lighthouse and a nice harbor to visit. The most beautiful beaches in the region can be found along the way.
  • Bolaman. A wooden manor stands here on the foundation of a Byzantine castle.

In summer there are always "tick alarms" here. Therefore: If possible, do not crawl into the undergrowth. Take the socks over your pants and the good Autan against ticks.

Practical advice

Ordu is not used to receiving foreign tourists. Therefore, the residents are very friendly, but usually speak neither German nor English. But thanks to the friendliness of the locals, you can usually go very far with your hands and feet.
