Ornans, the "Little Venice Comtoise », Capital of the canton of Doubs in Franche-Comte, on the main road D67 To 25 km of Besancon and 35 km of Pontarlier. Built from the 6the century in one of the most beautiful sites of Franche-Comté on the banks of the Rented and since this period has been the second home of the Bisontine bourgeoisie, hence the number of mansions (early 17th centurye century) which architecturally enrich the city.

It is a city with a hundred facets, with tourism in the first place. The Loue attracts all sport fishing fanatics, kayakers, walkers, art lovers and curious of all stripes. Art is well represented by the painter Gustave Courbet, a native of the country, whose museum is dedicated to him offers an overview of his works.

Around

Lison Valley

In the direction of Besancon, at the exit of Ornans take, along the Loue, the direction of Cleron. There, in a magnificent and green setting, the 14th century castlee century (1320) with its mass and its towers, appears in the middle of gigantic trees which are reflected in the peaceful waters of the Loue. The castle being private, the visits are not permanent, to inquire at «Cléron Home »03 81 62 18 38, 4 town hall square. In the same village you will admire the old mill, the 3 wash houses of the XVIIIIe, the Tacot museum (03 81 62 13 31), the Perrin cheese factory and local cheese "Edel de Cléron For walkers, the Rocher du Moine, a monolith of 39 meters away high and the Stone that turns.

  • Continue your journey on the D473 on Amancey, 3 km after this village, turn right on the D492 up to Nans-sous-Ste.Anne (8 km). Picturesque village overlooked by cliffs of nearly 350 meters and in the hollow of one of these, the sources of the Lison whose waterfalls come out of the deep cave. This village was the stronghold, according to Louis Pergaud des Longevernes and Velrans of "the war of the buttons".
  • TO 2 km from there, on a tributary of the Lison, the Taillanderie awaits your visit (opening hours vary depending on the season 03 81 86 64 18).

This 19th century farm-workshope century, used the motive force of water to drive the waterwheel. Manufacturing focused on cutting tools (scythes, bill hooks). Stopped since 1969, the workshop remains in operation for visitors who will be able to admire all the machinery for driving bellows (a system unique in Europe), forging and swifts. The deafening noise produced by this machinery clearly shows the harsh working conditions of the past century. 14 km of Salins-les-Bains in the Swear.

Ornans to Pontarlier

Exit Ornans by the D67 in the direction of Pontarlier, the road follows the course of the Loue to its source.

  • Barely 4 km and stop at the village of Montgesoye to admire the Castle-church from 9e and XIIe century, the noble house from IXe century and visit the Comtois costume museum. This museum shows you a whole range of the different clothing habits of Franche-Comté with the legends attached to it. Like all the villages in the valley, Montgesoye has all the leisure sports equipment (camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, etc.)
  • Still 2 km and you arrive at the village of Vuillafans, provided with a campsite, a lodging, a nautical base; the visitor can indulge in fishing, canoeing, caving and hiking (marked trails). It is the only village in the valley to have resumed vine cultivation and wine making.
  • A walking tour not to be missed since Vuillafans is the small climb (difference in level 80 meters) up to Chateauvieux-les-Fossés. One of the two smallest towns of Doubs with 11 inhabitants (Post calendar 2007). Installed on a terrace above the Loue, the medieval castle (private and not open to visitors) is remarkable for its original ramparts.

A tour of the village begins with the town hall and the fountain-washhouse of 1826. The walk continues by descending into the valley of Vergetolle, the blue source and its cave (one of the most beautiful water reserves in Europe). Going back to Loue do not miss the waterfalls and the Tuffière caves.

  • Still 4 km and Lods welcomes you. Formerly rich in vineyards, the village has only a few vines hanging on the facades of houses in full sun. Here and there, along the paths, a few vines returned to nature allow you to taste this sweet grape which made the village rich until the arrival of phylloxera, the train and the competition. As you walk through the picturesque streets of the village, you will discover all of this at Vine and wine museum, then a charming painting workshop.

I recommend the walks along the Loue to admire the old bridges and the remains of hydraulic mills. Lods is part of "most beautiful villages in France ».

  • Again 3 km and it's Mouthier-Haute-Pierre, a village founded in the early centuries by monks who built a Abbey among the largest of the Gauls. The cultivation of the vine began at this time until the Second World War. Cherry trees have taken over and delicious black cherries (marsottes) produce excellent Kirsch.
  • From there, the road continues winding, in the direction of Pontarlier up to the source of the Loue.
