The Franche-Comte is a region french, forming the border between France and Swiss and between the regions of Burgundy, Rhône-Alpes, Alsace and of Lorraine.

Understand

Franche-Comté throughout its history has always been influenced by its geographical location between the Kingdom of France, Switzerland and the Germanic Empire. It has often served as a battleground in which it had nothing to do. This is especially valid for the County of Montbeliard placed outpost in the gap Belfort (Between Vosges and Swear) to block the invaders.

During its annexation by France, Louis XIV had some 500 castles and strongholds in Franche-Comté destroyed, which deprives us today of a historical surplus that can be visited. However, after the War of 1870, the EAST part of the region, i.e. the area Besancon-Montbeliard-Belfort was equipped with a belt of impressive semi-buried fortifications, most of which are being repaired thanks to teams of volunteers. It is no less than 30 military works worthy of interest.
