Luxeuil-les-Bains is a french Location in the department Haute-Saône.

Politically, the municipality belongs to the Lure arrondissement and is the administrative seat of the canton of Luxeuil-les-Bains.

The thermal spa is located on the western edge of the South Vosges. The Roman settlement Luxovium was located here. In their vicinity, the Irish-Scottish missionary Columban the Younger founded a monastery around 590, the scriptorium of which paved the way for occidental illumination. Under Charlemagne, the abbey was renewed as a Benedictine convent.

Some of the more than a dozen warm springs (43-63 ° C) were already used by the Romans. These springs were used in the 18th century to build the first modern thermal baths in France.
