The Oruro Department is to the west of Bolivia in the highland region of the Altiplano. It is a rough highland region outside the capital Oruro itself is only very sparsely populated.
Oruro is located in the region of Bolivia, where the pre-Columbian culture has been best preserved. So many of the inhabitants speak Quechua or Aymara, and the carnival in the capital, La Diablada, is world famous.

From the south (Villazón, Tupiza and Uyuni) can Oruro by train (Expreso del Sur / Wari-Wari del Sur) can be achieved. The train is faster and more recommendable than the buses over Uyuni or Potosí. From the north, you can take the bus to Oruro from La Paz. The city is the starting point for the rest of the department.
mobility
The train is available in the south and east, but it does not stop everywhere. Otherwise there are buses and trucks.
Tourist Attractions
Most of the cities in the department are modern industrial cities with no old town that is really worth seeing. Oruro, however, has a very well-kept, nice city center with some old buildings.
The colonial church is located on the border with Chile Iglesia de Curahuara de Carangas by 1606.

The most typical dish is that Charkekan, roasted llama meat mixed with boiled corn, which dates back to pre-Columbian times. Besides that, that's also strange Pique macho popular, a mixture of fried potatoes, meat, soy sauce, onions, tomatoes and wiener sausages (!).
