Eastern Carinthia is on the border to Styria. The area around Völkermarkt, with the Klopeiner See, is particularly interesting for tourists. Like that Lavanttal in the Wolfsberg district.

In Eastern Carinthia you can sometimes notice a slight Styrian tinge. But the dialect spoken here can still be clearly recognized as Carinthian. In the south there are some places with Slovenian minorities.

The easiest way to get here is by car, because both Völkermarkt and Wolfsberg are located directly on the Südautobahn (A2). Traveling by train is a little more difficult. To switch to Klagenfurt you won't get around. There are only international connections Marburg. Buses are only suitable for traveling from other Carinthian communities.

- Hochosterwitz Castle, near St. Georgen am Längsee east of St. Veit an der Glan. One of the landmarks of Carinthia. Hochosterwitz Castle is open to the public for a fee from April to October. As a visitor to the castle, it is advisable to take the footpath through the 14 gates and not to use the elevator.
- Wolfsberg Castle, in Wolfsberg. The castle is the landmark of Wolfsberg. The café in the castle is open all year round. Various events take place in the castle throughout the year. - Benedictine Abbey Stift Sankt Paul. The Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul, founded in 1091, is a castle complex that served the Dukes of Carinthia as ancestral castle. Today the monastery is the oldest still active monastery in Carinthia and has one of the largest art collections in Europe as well as an extensive and important library. Inside the complex there is a Romanesque basilica that was built at the end of the 12th century.
