Ouistreham is a small town with around 9,300 inhabitants in the department Calvados in the Normandy. It lies at the mouth of the Orne in the English Channel.

In the 19th century the fishing village of Ouistreham developed into a holiday resort, its beach was named under the name Riva Bella known. However, during the Second World War the place was in the area Sword Beach, this section of the Allied landing zones extended from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer to Ouistreham. The Canal de Caen à la Mer connects Caen with Ouistreham.
