The oldest district of Overath is the Kemenat, an old count's estate on the church. The oldest settlement in Overath, however, is likely to be the Steinhof (current building from 1662) opposite the church, a former manor house, today connected to the community center. Bernsau Castle also had historical significance for Overath, of which only remains of the wall can be seen in today's Hammermühle industrial area.
