Understand

The park mainly consists of Lake Skadar (Skadarsko Jezero). The latter has an area that varies between 370 km2 and 530 km2 depending on the water level. It is the largest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. Its average depth is 6 meters but it can reach the 60 meters. About two thirds of the lake is located in Montenegro while the last third belongs to Albania. The area of ​​the park is 400 km2. The lake is located only 7 km from the Adriatic Sea. Its waters flow into it through the Bojana River.

The lake has many bays and its shores are generally swampy. The southern part of the park is rockier and there is a chestnut forest. The lake also has several small islands.
