the Grand-Étang national park and forest reserve is a protected area ofGrenada island, in the state of Grenade.

Understand

Grand-Étang National Park is essentially a forest reserve. The most frequented tourist site is the Grand-Étang lake, whose almost perfectly circular shape comes from the fact that it occupies the bottom of an extinct volcanic crater.

To go

Of Saint Georges, take the road to Grenville. After about 8 km steep climb, you enter the national park.

Circulate

The national park has no roads, you can only explore it on foot.

To see

  • 1 Grand Etang Lake (from the information center, take the direction of Grenville, for about 50 m, and turn left at the white gatehouse) Logo indicating tariffs Entrance fee, tickets are taken in a gatehouse on the side of the road, at the foot of the information center. – The motorable path descends for about a hundred meters, to a picnic area. From there, a path goes towards the Mount Qua-Qua, and another allows you to go around the lake.
The tour of the lake takes an hour to an hour and a half. The trail is very muddy and slippery, sports or hiking shoes are highly recommended. Several fords are to be crossed. In rainy weather most of the trail is flooded. Provide water and mosquito repellent, as well as an umbrella, because the rains are frequent (several times a day) and torrential.
The trail ends on Saint George's-Grenville Road, about 100 meters downstream from the entrance. Take the road on the right to return to the starting point.
The trail runs along the mangrove swamps growing in the lake. The hike takes place in a humid forest, invaded by fungi. The vegetation is exuberant. At the start of the path, a few banana trees have been planted.
