Patmos (Greek Πάτμος) is the northernmost island of the Dodecanese. The island is relatively small and sparsely populated with 40 km². However, it is an important place of pilgrimage for Orthodoxy and other Christian churches, because this is where the Evangelist John the Apocalypse or the Secret revelation have written. Since 1999 the religious sites of the island of Patmos belong to the UNESCO world cultural heritage.
