Phaselis is a Lycian ruin complex in the Turkey.

In the 7th century B.C. became a small colony here Rhodes founded. The good location on the trade routes on the coast ensured a rapid upswing. Initially, the rule temporarily changed to Pamphylia. From the year 550 BC. the place finally belonged to the Persian Empire. Although it belonged to the Attic League for a few years, it was supposed to be until 334 BC. last until the rule should change permanently. In that year the troops of Alexander the Great advanced, to which the city surrendered without a fight. During the Diadoch Wars, the rulership changed from Ptolemaic to Seleucid. It was not until Rome that the city was included in the Lycian rule. At the beginning of the first year B.C. also nested here as in Olympos (Lycia) Pirate one. When this in 77 BC. were defeated by the Roman Empire in Olympos, Phaselis was also affected in these battles. But unlike Olympos, Phaselis was able to recover from it and experienced a renewed upswing. Most of the buildings that can still be seen today date from this period. The city began to decline in the 7th century during the Arab raids, from which the city never recovered. In the 8th century the port was used again as a Byzantine naval base, but already 200 years later, the buildings were only used as a source of raw materials for the construction of Antalya.

By plane

The nearest international airport is in Antalya. From here the road continues.

By bus

Coming from Antalya with the Dolmuş to Kemer and from there on with the Dolmuş to the south (Tekirova or Kumluca). Get off at the "Phaselis" junction and follow the signs (footpath: a good 800 meters). The path mainly leads through wooded area, which makes the walk bearable. Tip: When entering the Dolmuş in Kemer, speak to the driver and tell him Phaselis as the destination. So he knows a) where you want to get off and you b) actually get into the right vehicle.

In the street

Of Antalya take the D400 in the direction of Kumluca. The road has four lanes and is in relatively good condition. KGS signs are hanging in front of some tunnels, but most recently (06/2012) no money was charged here. About 70 km beyond Antalya, a paved road leads down into the valley to the ruins. This is well secured. There's a large parking lot down by the ruins

By boat

Phaselis does not have a marina, but is popular with excursion boats from Kemer or Finike approached.

On foot

Become Lycian way goes and chooses the coastal variant in the final phase, runs through Phaselis and has time for a visit or a swim in the city harbor.

Only the large southern harbor can still rant about harbor to some extent, as the excursion boats usually anchor here and make a detour to Phaselis.

Phaselis itself has no overnight accommodation. If you want to spend the night within walking distance, you can use the neighboring campsite:

Alternatively, you can of course on the numerous accommodations in Çamyuva (north of Phaselis) or Tekirova (south of Phaselis) in the greater area Kemer To fall back on. However, these are mostly all-inclusive hotels. In the main season there is usually little to get here for a few nights.
