In the street
The arrival is possible via the national road 7. Of Vientiane on the national road 13 to the north and in Phou Khoun on the national road 7 towards the east with destination Phonsavan. Or from direction Luang Prabang turn south on national road 13 and also in Phou Khoun east on national road 7.
From Phonsavan there is a direct connection via Bolikham to Pakxan. The road is now paved throughout and is also great to drive on by bike. There are 5 guest houses in Tha Thom. For a long time the route was considered too dangerous because of the rebels.

trips
- The former provincial capital is 30 km to the southeast Muang Khoun. The one that looks like a memorial is particularly interesting here Wat Phiawat. A Buddha with numerous bullet holes stands in the midst of destroyed pillars. The stupa is better - but not completely - preserved That Dam. Looters have broken into the stupa to look for grave treasures. All other temples in the area were completely destroyed in the Vietnam War.
- The Level of clay jugs (Plain of Jars) are in the vicinity of Phonsavan.
