The province Pichincha lies in the Sierra of Ecuador. The provincial capital is the state capital Quito.

The province of Pichincha includes the Quito plateau (2850 m) and the two slopes on the east and west side of the Cordilleras.
The province has around 2.6 million inhabitants, a majority of which (around 75%) live in the capital Quito. The mean height is 2,900 m, the area of Pichincha is approx. 16,600 km². Apart from Quito Pichincha is predominantly rural. Potatoes, barley and beans are grown in the higher regions and in lower regions coffee, cocoa, yuca and fruits such as bananas.
The province of Pichincha is named after the volcano Pichincha (4,794 m), the local mountain of Quito, last outbreak in 2000.
