make
- "Take the water" by bringing your own container to fill one of the city's fountains. Becherovka got its name from the cups (in German 'Becher') traditionally used in these fountains and for the most part it tastes much better than slightly radioactive water with a high mineral content! The water here is supposed to be good for heart disease, hence the heart-shaped flowerbeds and statues. Podebrady is much less commercial than other spas in the Czech Republic and therefore better represents the Central European spa culture.

Shopping
The Czech Republic has long been known for the production of perfect crystals, as evidenced by shop windows in Prague's Old Town. At the end of a flower-lined avenue where walkers are supposed to walk, very close to the train station, there is a direct crystal shop, the prices of which are a fraction of what they will be in Prague. Factory tours are sometimes available, but there are also photos of how the crystal is cut and shaped in the store. Podiebrady is worth a half-day trip from Prague, if only to buy the bargain Becherovka and crystal.
